Part of your responsibility of being a good digital citizen is becoming an ethical researcher and responsible user of other people's ideas and creations. Take a look at the following graphics. The top one focuses on the use of digital media projects, and the bottom graphic focuses on written work. |
Other examples of "transformative use" with digital projects using copyrighted materials:
Critical Commentary: A teacher creates book review podcasts that include paragraphs read-aloud from the book being reviewed.
Quoting in order to start a discussion and/or Critical Commentary: A video with clips from Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Twilight to begin a discussion on gender roles and Hollywood.
A Mashup/Collage example of a student project where she combines photographs, recordings, music clips, and her own narration to make observations about how wars influence popular culture.
Remember, if you're using copyright friendly media, you don't need to worry about meeting this "transformative" standard.
